U.S. Olympic Skier Hunter Hess Flashes A Sign Just For Donald Trump At End Of His Race

American halfpipe skier Hunter Hess has responded after facing criticism from former President Donald Trump during the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Following a strong qualifying run, Hess leaned toward the camera and made an “L” sign on his forehead—a direct response to being labeled a “loser” by Trump days earlier.

The controversy began when Hess commented at a press conference about representing the U.S. amid domestic political tensions. He stated that wearing the American flag didn’t mean endorsing every policy. Trump subsequently posted on social media that Hess shouldn’t have made the team.

Hess acknowledged the backlash was difficult, noting his family faced online hostility. However, he channeled the experience into motivation for his performance.

“I worked my whole life to be here,” he said. “I stand by what I said.” He emphasized his pride in competing for Team USA despite the political noise.

Hess successfully qualified for the Olympic final alongside three other American skiers. He remains focused on his performance and representing his country at the sport’s highest level.

The athlete’s response highlights the intersection of sports and politics on an international stage. His gesture served as both a personal statement and a testament to resilience under public scrutiny.
