What the Air Recirculation Button Means fo

The air recirculation button—shown as a car with a looping arrow—controls whether your vehicle uses outside air or reuses air already inside the cabin.

When off, fresh air is drawn in, filtered, and heated or cooled.

When on, outside air is blocked, creating a closed loop that improves efficiency in certain conditions.

Recirculation is most useful in hot weather, helping the cabin cool faster and reducing strain on the air conditioner.

It also helps block exhaust fumes, strong odors, dust, and pollen, making it beneficial in traffic or for drivers with allergies.

However, using it continuously isn’t ideal. In cold, rainy, or humid conditions, trapped air can cause window fogging, and during long drives, fresh air helps prevent drowsiness.

Regularly replacing the cabin air filter also helps maintain clean airflow.
