Designer Will Breaux achieved his vision of a dream home by constructing a residence entirely from shipping containers. Situated on McGowen Street in Houston, the unique three-story structure utilizes eleven containers, offering 2,500 square feet of living space topped with a rooftop deck.
Breaux had harbored the ambition to build his own house since the early 2000s but faced difficulties finding a designer who could match his specific concept. This initial challenge led him to personally seek inspiration from other construction projects he admired.
After dismissing an initial design team that failed to meet his standards around 2011, Breaux made the decisive choice to design the home himself. He embraced the project independently, turning his long-held idea into a personal mission.
The choice of shipping containers as the primary building material was deliberate. Breaux was drawn to their inherent strength, fireproof qualities, overall durability, and notable resistance to hurricane-force winds.
Despite having no formal background in construction, Breaux dedicated himself to learning the intricacies of building with containers. His process involved extensive research and the creation of a detailed 3D sketch to plan the unique layout.
Following countless hours of dedicated effort, Breaux successfully completed his extraordinary container home. The residence now stands fully furnished, a testament to his perseverance and innovative spirit.
Today, he is the proud owner of a truly distinctive living space. His journey from concept to reality demonstrates how determination and self-education can turn a personal dream into a tangible and remarkable achievement.
